History
MaritimeBilly.com started out of a Massachusetts Maritime Academy dorm room in the spring of 2003 by Cadets Bill Pierce and Brendan Maloney. While hanging out one day in their dorm room thinking of ways to make some quick cash to support their truck and motorcycle habits, Bill and Brendan decided to pool together their net worth at the time (a total of $300) and got 50 merchant marine t-shirts made to sell around school. The word spread quickly about the t-shirts within a couple of weeks they were gone.
The next year Bill got 150 more t-shirts made and continued to sell them around campus and on ebay. Bill did some research and found out that there was not one single company on the internet offering Merchant Marine Apparel. He thought that between all of 7 maritime academies throughout the US, the veterans of WWII, and all of the sailors who worked their way up the "hawse pipe", there was a niche market that had not been tapped yet. This was when the idea for MaritimeBilly was born.
After graduation Bill acquired his sea-going experience as a 3rd Engineer aboard a few types of U.S. Flagged Vessels including a Chemical Tanker, a U.S. Government Missile Spy Ship, and an Offshore Supply Vessel. While on board these vessels, Bill spent his downtime sketching out designs, brainstorming what products to sell, and where to advertise.
In February of 2009 MaritimeBilly.com was launched. The user friendly website offers customers a "one stop shop" for everything under the sun for the professional mariner! From t-shirts to blankets to hat pins.. If it has to do with the sea MaritimeBilly.com has got it!
